Head to head

Bisq vs RoboSats

Bisq is a desktop app with on-chain multisig and the widest payment-method choice, but Bisq 1 needs a BTC deposit and trades are capped at 0.25 BTC. RoboSats runs in a browser or on Android, settles over Lightning in minutes and needs only a small bond, which makes it better for small, fast trades. Both run over Tor and need no account.

Bisq vs RetoSwap (Haveno)

Both are desktop, Tor-based P2P apps with security deposits. Bisq is Bitcoin-centric; RetoSwap is built around Monero and uses arbitrator-backed 2-of-3 multisig. RetoSwap was exploited twice in May–June 2026 and patched in v1.8.0, while Bisq 1 had an altcoin-trade exploit in May 2026 with victims reimbursed.

RoboSats vs Hodl Hodl

RoboSats uses Lightning and throwaway identities with no account; Hodl Hodl uses on-chain multisig escrow and an email account. RoboSats suits smaller amounts; Hodl Hodl is often used for larger trades. Hodl Hodl's terms allow it to request ID.

Your first P2P trade

  1. Start small and pick counterparties with a long, clean trade history.
  2. Keep everything inside the platform — chat, escrow and disputes. Anyone pushing you to another app is a red flag.
  3. Use payment methods that can't be reversed (bank transfer, cash) when you're selling.
  4. Never mention crypto in a bank-transfer reference.
  5. Keep your client updated — both Bisq and Haveno shipped security fixes in 2026.
